ABOUT
My name is Lewis and I teach Fitness Pilates on the Isle of Wight. I originally trained as a dancer at Coventry University and subsequently the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance. I continue to work within dance and physical theatre with the RedTIE Theatre company on the Island and also various amateur dramatics organisations.

All dancers use Pilates techniques in their training as core stability and true core strength are vital to good dance technique. Since encountering the techniques of the visionary Joseph Pilates I had always been fascinated by how these small, exactingly precise sequences of strengthening and stretching exercises caused such drastic and beneficial positive changes to my body.
I’m really excited that since encountering Pilates over a decade ago I have now trained with someone who is possibly even more visionary, talented and ambitious than Joseph Pilates was and am a qualified Fitness Pilates instructor. This means I can now help spread the wonderful benefits of Pilates in terms of flat tummies, improved posure, having more energy to people across the Isle of Wight and beyond.

I love teaching. I know its a cliche but it is truly rewarding helping other people to achieve their goals and fulfil their potential. Whether that is improving their fitness levels and therefore their overall health or helping teenagers develop their creative skills to create powerful and moving theatre.
Fitness is very important to me. At school I wasn’t the ’sporty’ type. I preferred to gossip with the girls than to kick a football around the playground and as such I was overweight until my late teens. It was on my National Diploma in Performing Arts that I truly discovered my love of dance and in turn it transformed my body physically, sky rocketing my energy levels and opened up a whole new creative world to me. As physically demanding as a dancer’s training is in their craft it has to be supplemented by a full and balanced fitness training programme. Strength, flexibility, balance, aerobic endurance, agility…these components of fitness are a dancer’s toolbox. It has therefore been a natural progression for me to move into fitness instruction and I’m loving every minute of it.
